The annual Rise Up Art for India Painting Party was the happening place to be last Sunday. Rise Up gathered local (and formally local) artists to spend the afternoon at the warehouse filling two huge canvases with designs. This is my second year of participating in this fun event, and while I didn't get to spend quite as much time as I would have liked on the canvas, it was good to catch up with Portland artist and friend Joe Kimmel, as well as Lori, Jo, and a few other art friends.

The canvases will be on display downtown for this Art Hop- and then will be auctioned at the end of the month...

That's what I get.

I got derailed this weekend with a helluva virus, thanks in part to the last few weeks of moonlight hikes and rock shows, I'm sure.  This morning I am feeling much better, but foggy-brained.  Coming into the studio and taking photos of the work in progress makes me realize that the next three weeks need Major Focus Time.

This is the most dangerous time for  these pieces.  It's when I start to get down to details that things can go dreadfully wrong.  Of course, that is all part of the process. My friend Christine over at Du Buh Du had a similar situation a few weeks ago, and described it very elegantly.

Not sure what the story is on this one yet. A smaller one, quickly done last week before the illness set in.

In other news, the Art for India auction was last night at the PoetHouse.  I don't know the exact results yet of the fundraiser, but when I left at seven (I didn't want my wheezing to distract from the great live music), the loft was packed and the canvas that I had worked had sold several sections.  

All right. Back to work, ignoring the most beautiful day outside...

Our Weapons of Choice

Saturday shone bright for the Elevate Underground Art and Music Festival. Troy Field next to McMenamen's held numerous clothing, art, and miscellanea booths- including one for the artists of the PoetHouse. I proudly sold one of my art cards, paying for 1/3 of my burrito at lunch. It was yummy.

I had a bit of time to paint during the festivities. Before the painting party I hadn't picked up a paintbrush in a while, too busy with scissors... hopefully I will finish this one soon...

Stinkin Busy.

So- A lot is going on this weekend that I had forgotten was coming up. Friday night is first Friday Art Walk in Bend, and PoetHouse is hosting an event for Rise Up called Art for India. Twenty plus artists will be working on two murals that will then be divided and auctioned off for a fund raiser.

Conor Oberst (indie starchild/Bright Eyes man) will be playing at the Domino Room Friday night- and I may or may not get around to going if I am not covered in too much paint.

Elevate, the underground art festival will be going on Saturday at Troy Field (the park next to McMenamin's.) Organized by Oxygen Tattoo, Elevate focus's on Bend's underground and outsider art and music scene. There are going to be dj's and art and lots of Ink. PoetHouse will have a booth and I will be peddling cards of my collages.
